Author: Dana Smithese

Hm, exercise Plan? as we are all to aware, these 2 words experience a huge surge in demand during the winter months, January and February. Its no secret that among the most popular New Year resolutions is the desire to put together a exercise plan to lose weight, and get in better shape physically. However, there is a major decline in gym memberships, fitness equipment sales and weight loss program enrollments as the year rolls on. So, why does all the excitement towards pursuing a healthier appearance and shedding excess pounds fizzle out as the year rolls on? Well, my conversations have discovered 5 Tips You Don't Want To ignore... That there are 5 main reasons why people quit their fitness and weight loss programs should come as a relief because they are all manageable, and easy to overcome...
1 - No Exercise Plan

You must have heard the statement "Failing to plan is planning to fail" Well, few statements where ever more a fact... Lets face it, the number one reason people abandon their physical exercise is because they do not plan any structure into their ideas like a timetable, food, preparation is in and of itself as important as exercise, then there is the finances, etc... You get my point, Unfortunately many times we put no thought towards are goals. Now, if we can agree here and now that before you begin your next fitness program, you first sit and decide what you want to achieve, Is it muscle gain, or a more toned figure? Are you going to plan your daily menu in the evening, or morning? Look, it's simple, just map out how you are going to achieve these goals. This will give you the inspiration to keep going on those rainy and dark days when you feel like giving up. Next,
2 - Journal, Journal, Journal, Your Exercise Plan

Your progress will not always seem apparent, especially if you step onto the scale on Day 2... The fact is, progress has been made. This is another reason why people give up so soon on their exercise plan. They finish a hard day at the gym then starve themselves to the point where they need a sugar fix, and then hit the scales and realize no weight loss... In some instances, weight gain could even be noted due to muscle gain because muscle is heavier than fat... This can be normal when you begin a exercise plan. That's why it's important to Keep a journal to chart your growth... This will give you knowledge, and inspiration to continue at that turning point when most people give up. Just imagine yourself kicking back on Day 17, as you realize in amazement that over the past 3 months you have lost only 15 pounds, but you are also lifting an extra 15-20 pounds in your daily work out or, you can now fit into that dress you wore as a care-free teenager. Your journal should include a commentary on your daily workout sessions, weight, exercise variations, number of reps and goals towards your next workout.
3 - Un-Realistic Goals And Training

Its been said that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a couple of months and underestimate what they can accomplish in a week. This is so so true for most of our weight loss and exercise plan. Some people want to go from barely being able to walk up a flight of stairs to running the N.Y.C Marathon in 4 weeks! Its just not going to happen that quickly. We all must set realistic and achievable goals and as you master each task you set for yourself, you will feel an inner sense of pride that will inspire you to do more.
4 - No friend

I think we can all relate to this. One of the main reasons we all desire to stay fit and get into great shape is for the attention we will get from family, friends and strangers. However, the journey towards getting that body to die for can be a hard and lonely road at times. And without a partner to inspire and encourage us in moments of weakness, most of us abandon our exercise plan. That is why having a partner - either a spouse, friend or a acquaintance to join you in your training sessions can prove the difference between short term success or long term prosperity. Even being in the same room with other motivated people such as in a walking group can do wonders for your commitment... And last but not least...
5 - No Fun Approach

Getting fit and following are exercise plan should be fun and not approached as a chore or punishment meted out by your boss... Inject some fun into your exercise plan. Look, try doing something as simple as wearing different color gym clothes for different days of the week. Take a different trail when you go jogging in the P.M.. Try mixing the number of reps you do combined with heavier or smaller weights etc. The list is endless. Go ahead and find something new and exciting to add to your exercise plan and avoid monotony like the plague. Workout sessions should be moments you look forward to and not dread.
