One surefire way of creating strong linkages is through directory submission. Many have taken this as an obsolete marketing strategy, but even just the number of paid directory sites alone is a give-away that it’s still a viable option for marketing.
It’s my duty today to list down all tips an online marketer should keep in mind when it comes to directory submission, to make sure that one’s objectives are achieved. So here it goes:
First is to use paid directories, and not the free ones. The links for paid directories stay longer than the one-year life-span links of free ones. This is apart from the time-tested directory sites, which should be mainstay.
Next is to go for both general and niche directories. You just run a research online for your niche in major search engines while for general ones, you choose the established sites, meaning the older the better.
Page rank is not really that significant when choosing directory listing sites. Some directory sites with no page rank at all can still help out with your online visibility.
Create different descriptions of pages for every directory site you submit to. This will help you keep away from Google taking your pages as duplicate content, warranting penalty.
It’s also a good thing to have the main targeted search words or phrases on the anchor links, although many directory sites won’t allow it. Sometimes a good work-around is to place it after your company name, on the link.
Make a plan on the number of directory sites you submit to, preferably on a per week basis. This plan should go for a longer period. Remember that it’s better to submit to fifty sites and do it religiously over a three-month period than submit to a hundred and leave it without follow-up.
You can also add extra links to inner pages of your site; just make sure that you are using different anchor text for these links, otherwise this might be taken against you.
You can now take advantage of directory submission and discover that it’s not going away.
