Going Green: Living Off The Grid And Reducing Your Monthly Energy Expenditures

Author: Gerald Fitzgerald

Are you considering going green and living off the utility grid?

Some independent-minded folks have decided that becoming energy self-sufficiency is the direction they want to chose for their families. They decided to make ways of producing their own power so they are no longer dependent on the grid delivering power for their home.

"Grid" refers to the power grid which delivers electricity to most of the places in the USA. Going "off the grid" refers to a style of life where you make your own power for your own home.

Common ways of going off the grid is to use solar panels or windmills which generate electricity. It is easy to do and you can buy many which provide you all you need to start producing your own power in this fashion.

When you ask a local contractor to install a factory-built solar or wind power producing system for your home, you will need to pay anywhere from $13,000 to $28,000 for it all. This is a big outlay and it would take years of use of your off the grid power system to financially justify that large of investment.

But, in most cases, with a cash outlay of only $110 to $260, you should be able to receive the detailed instructions and make your own windmills or solar panel and commence producing electricity quickly. Most of these programs indicate the parts list you will need and have detailed guidance so that you can build your first system in a couple of weekends.

This small level of expenditure will probably not be enough to get you to a point of being completely off the grid. But, when you learn how to build and hook up a windmill or solar panel, you will know how many of those kinds of devices you should need to replace your current power usage. Surprisingly, it does not require very many windmills or solar panel to dramatically reduce your electricity bill.

Many industrious people have grown their home electricity generating installations up to where they sell their excess electricity to the grid, instead of purchasing it from the grid. It is not that difficult and most of these downloadable instructions show you how to do all of this.

If you want to go green by moving off the grid, you will find this financially rewarding, easy, and fulfilling.
