Misunderstood Facts About Protein Supplements

Author: Rita Bennett

There are always two opposing thoughts when it comes to protein supplements. One group would be filled with bodybuilders who advocate the effectiveness of the said supplements. You need to just look at them and see that they are speaking the truth. The other group says that supplements are not necessary as you can find all the protein you need in your daily meals. There are fewer bodybuilders in the latter camp, but most of those who discourage protein supplements are usually dieticians or doctors.

So who would you believe? The short answer is that the bodybuilders are indeed right about the supplements they use, but the doctors aren't wrong either. Doctors would say that a piece of chicken breast is enough for your protein needs. Everyone agrees that this is a fact. However, stating that protein supplements are not necessary since they're just scams is a bad way to put it. While protein supplements can be forgone by a person, it doesn't mean that it is a scam. They are supplements, meaning they add something to an already existing quantity.

Bodybuilders usually want to take more protein than what they get from a single piece of chicken. In order for them to do that, you have to eat more than one pieces of chicken breast for that added protein. In the process, they take in more calories. So instead of exercising more to take advantage of the extra protein, you may have to do even more reps just to burn off those extra calories.

This is the reason bodybuilders use supplements. They get the protein they need without getting extra calories.

Does this mean that the advocates of the supplements are right and the doctors are wrong? No, not necessarily. The doctors are right, but the information is often presented in a way that the people take it from a whole new different angle. For instance, doctors would say that protein derived from food is enough. The readers would then read this information as a shot fired on the supplement industry.

If you are building mass for competition purposes and you have a deadline, the fact is you'll need supplements. It's important to understand that if you take supplements, then you need to exercise a lot more. If you don't do so, the results will be nowhere near what you're expecting. Correct usage is extremely important for effectiveness, so before you search for best protein bars or other supplements you have to know how to do so. Whether or not you take supplements, consult your physician to guarantee the best results in your quest for better fitness.

As you search for best protein bars or powder, buy them armed with the knowledge of what they actually do and that they are by no means magic pills.
