What is a TMJ disorder?

TMJ stands for Temporomandibular joint, the place where the lower jaw connects to the skull.
The main symptoms of disorders affecting this area are jaw pain and headaches.

TMJ disorders can be triggered in your sleep by things like grinding your teeth at night, which is also called Bruxism.
Bruxism is often caused by the muscles of the jaw and neck trying remain active in order to keep your airway open to allow for proper oxygen flow. This critical lack of oxygen is very often caused by sleep apnea.

People suffering from TMJ disorders often end up grinding all the enamel off of their teeth while they sleep, and all the midnight jaw clenching and tooth grinding almost always sends people to searching for more information about TMJ symptoms, and TMJ treatment.

Dr. Gorman has found great success in treating patients TMJ by treating it's source, their sleep apnea.
How does one treat sleep apnea?

Fortunately, bulky and expensive CPAP Machines are not the only option anymore,

At The Sleep Apnea and TMJ Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center, many different treatment options are made available, such as the DNA (Day and Night) Appliance which helps keep the jaw in proper alignment during sleep. Dr. Gorman is even currently developing his own patented non invasive treatment method for Sleep Apnea called the SOS Strip that will keep your tongue out of your airway while you sleep, thus increasing airflow, bringing healthier sleep, and treating the root cause of many patients painful TMJ disorders.

The goal is to treat TO HEALTH, rather than just managing your symptoms.
