Does your website collect client information such as their name, home address, date of birth etc? If it does, you may like to keep in mind Data Protection implications and make sure that you remain within the law.
Principle 8 of Data Protection legislation states:
Personal data shall not be transferred to a country or territory outside the EEA unless that country or territory ensures an adequate level of protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.
The following countries are deemed to provide an adequate level of protection:
? All EEA Countries including the UK
? Andorra
? Argentina
? Canada
? Faroe Islands
? Guernsey
? Isle of Man
? Israel
? Jersey
? Switzerland
Do you know where your server is sited? Many are located in the United States of America, but the USA is not judged to provide an adequate level of safety as defined above. Therefore if you are holding individual data on a server based in the United States or any other country not listed above then you may well be inadvertently breaking the law!
Even if your hosting company is based in the UK you should find out where your hosting company servers are situated. You might be surprised at how many are based overseas.
