Getting Things Done Faster!

Author: Russel Demick

We all wish to finish everything we ought to be doing. The weekend report, the project that should have been finished weeks ago or that painting job for your kid's bedroom. Not only do we want to finish all of them, we want to do it with as little time needed as possible. For people who are working and/or own businesses, getting things done faster has many benefits. Some include:
• More income.
• Higher morale results in increased confidence and motivation among the working group.
• Finishing things faster is always cool.
The third one is not that beneficial, but it's always nice to have something to talk about with some of your friends. Frankly, there are many people out there with a list of things you can do to get things done. Most of the time it's all just theoretical talk. Instead of giving you the things they have already mentioned, I will list some things you can do to make working easier. Some of the things included in this list will sound weird or unorthodox but I am still giving them away because they work.
• Less planning = more work done
Talk about unorthodox. After hearing everybody else telling you to plan ahead, here I am telling you to plan less. Well, planning is good. But when you overdo it, it creates more stress to the individual than the actual work. For starters, you can try making a simplified planning technique. No due dates for personal projects and no specific course of action. Why? It's quite simple - because there is no way to predict the future.
• Work - Rest - Work - Rest
Again, this is another weird suggestion. Well, a lot of people tell you that the only way to get things done is to see it through from start to finish. It works for some people. But in reality, there are also a lot of people who can't sit for hours doing something. These are the people who suffer unexplainable pain in the neck, toes, arm and brain when working for an hour straight. To remedy this, you can cut down the whole job into pieces. What usually works is the 25-5 technique. 25 minutes of working then 5 minutes of relaxation. The 5 minutes of relaxation gives your body and brain the breather it needs. It doesn't necessarily mean idle time. You can use the 5 minutes to plan what you need to do in the next 25 minute block (don't over-plan it though)
• Quit Multitasking
Multitasking looks all too flashy and dreamy. Multitasking is good for your mobile phone or your laptop but it's not nearly as good for work. Again, it works for some but most of us find it hard to do math while thinking of the ten best philosophers of all time. Try to focus on one job at a time. The concentration and focus will help you finish the job faster than usual.
• Practice What You Have Read
After reading all this, apply them as soon as possible. They may sound like they defy the very foundation of getting things done but they have been proven by personal experience. Feel free to tell me if it worked for you too.
