Have you ever dreamed of developing into a greater human being? How about experiencing a significantly better life? If you’re like me I bet you have. The good thing is it’s easier than you think to make things better.
It all boils down to a person's performance. Everything we do in our lives is a performance. Whether it’s in front of a large crowd or an audience of one, it’s still a performance. In some cases, lounging in front of the TV eating potato chips is considered a bad depending on who you are.
A number of people have a higher performance rating than others. They have conditioned themselves to function at a high-level in everything they do. It wasn’t easy to get to this point but now that they’re at that level it seems effortless to everyone else.
What we are essentially talking about here is human performance. It includes both physical performance and mental performance. It also involves spiritual performance which should not be taken lightly. The total combination of each of these makes up human performance.
Physical performance means how well we use our bodies. Whether that is for a physical function such as a sport or during a business presentation. Our body conveys what we are thinking to other people even when we don’t recognize it. In some activities our physical performance can have a substantial influence on our entire performance.
Mental performance is how well we use our brains. This comprises thinking, memory functions, perception, learning, language, etc. Our world today leans greatly on mental performance. Those who shine here frequently have a significantly better life.
Spiritual performance is frequently overlooked. There is a connotation surrounding spirituality that it’s a bit hokey. In reality, we don’t accomplish much of anything if our spirit is asleep. This is where we obtain our energy from. Our bodies and minds would be ineffective without our spirit.
Now that you know a bit more of what human performance is, imagine using these things in your everyday life. If everyday you were able to deliver your greatest performance in whatever it is you are doing, then it would be safe to say you’d have an exceptional life. Yet, many people rarely do this. Every once in awhile we’ll decide to do our best at an exercise but we don’t maintain it. We think that by trying our best at one thing that we can let up on everything else. This is unfortunate. This is truth.
Our lives are made by what we do in each second. We need to concentrate more on our performances. Start small. First, work on your physical performance. Having a superior performance body makes your life less difficult. Once you’ve worked that out then move on to your mental performance. Once that is running smoothly, then you can integrate your spiritual performance. Of course you can work on all 3 at the same time, but I encourage you to start small. The smaller the better. It’s much simpler to create habits out of baby steps.
The more you understand about how human performance can benefit you in all you do the easier your life becomes. Once you recognize that everything we do is a performance, it’s easier to put on the best show you can everyday of your life. I’m not advocating that you pretend to be someone you’re not. What I am telling you is to give the best performance of who you are every moment of your life.
What will your performance be right now? Will you give your best performance every moment whether you are by yourself or with others? How distinct will your life become if you are able to make this into a daily habit?
