Everyone knows that reducing weight requires modifications in lifestyle habits. What many don't realize is that this cannot be done in a single step! If you try to make significant changes in your diet or jump into a demanding work out program all at once, you will probably become frustrated and dissatisfied with your fat reduction program. There is more to fat loss than just eating regimen and working out. The mental attitude you start with and maintain is critical to the success of your weight loss program!
1. First, you must accept that you did not put on the weight overnight, so you will not lose it overnight either. Any weight reduction program involves a progression of changes in the quality and quantity of food consumed along with additions of exercise activities to boost your at-rest metabolism and burning of calories. Furthermore, to have long term success it is vital that these modifications be permanent lifetime lifestyle adjustments.
This can sound intimidating and unachievable, but please grasp that millions of people have made these changes, lost weight and kept it off for the remainder of their lives. The secret is to find ways to revel in the journey!
Don’t go hungry by eating only rabbit food, unless of course you like rabbit food. Find nutrient heavy, calorie thin foods that you enjoy. Stay away from deep-fried food, fast food, or high fat content food and cut down on sweets. Use your ingenuity and try different kinds of foods until you find dishes you really adore. Personally, I like salads with organic greens, bell peppers, red onions, zucchini, baked chicken, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, Crasins, chopped walnuts, covered with broccoli pieces and drenched with a dressing consisting of balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, Italian seasoning and a small amount of organic olive oil.
Also, gradually start reducing the size of the portions you eat and eat more frequently to avoid food cravings. If you get off-track and splurge, don’t let it bother you. Matter of fact it is good to treat yourself occasionally to some fun food like burritos or Bar-B-Q. Occasional extravagances confuse your body so it will stop hoarding and start releasing fat. After treating yourself, just get back on track and watch the fat drop off.
Find a type of exercise that you like to do or that you feel good about doing. One of the best forms of exercise is walking. Most everyone can walk, it costs very little (just buy a decent pair of walking shoes) and can be done anywhere. Be certain that you don’t overdo it by trying to walk 5 miles the first day. Just walk a distance that feels good for you. The most important secret to exercising is to “Just Show Up” at least 3 times a week. It does not matter how much you do, just show up and do something. Some days I don’t feel like exercising much, but I just show up with no goals and it is amazing how many times I find that have an abundance of energy when I thought I was really tired. What I thought was fatigue was really tension that was relieved by the work out.
2. Get support: Proper reassurance is essential in keeping you on-track and enthusiastic. Without support, you won't be able to lose weight successfully. It is essential that you pick a weight loss program which offers inspiration to its members in the form of a support group or forum. In a support group, you will get inspiration and tips from your peers and experts alike! I also suggest that you recruit the support of your friends and family who understand you and support your goals. Tell your support group including friends and family about your successes and celebrate with them.
If you follow these tips there is no reason why you can’t lose weight! Remember that you can accomplish whatever you believe in your mind. If you have faith you can lose weight, you WILL! It does sound cliché but is very much true!
