As a native of Colorado, it really baffles me how much the state has grown over the previous several years. When I lived in France folks would ask me where I called home. When I reported that I was from Colorado, my French friends would laugh and say "Oh, like Doctor Quinn!" I will tell you that the Colorado of today is significantly different from the world of Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman. Since 2000 the state's population has gone up by over 750,000. Once renowned for our open spaces, these are hastily becoming a thing of the past, but I guess we must take the blame for this. Colorado has become a really pleasant place to reside. Louisville, Colorado was labeled the number one place to live in Money Magazine's top 100 list for 2011. Apart from Louisville, four other Colorado towns were listed. Fairly remarkable, huh? I guess if we would stop getting recognized for these sorts of things we wouldn't have so many immigrants from everywhere. But who wouldn't want to wake up to a amazing rocky mountain setting every day? Not only are our towns earning recognition for the total well being they provide to their occupants, but Colorado is home to many prestigious businesses. One industry that we hold in high regard here at Baskets By Rita is the gourmet food industry. Not only is Colorado recognized for restaurant chains such as Old Chicago, Chipotle, Noodles & Company, Quizno's, and Good Times, but Colorado is also home to many well known food brands as well. At Baskets By Rita we carry products from local businesses including Bhakti Chai, Bobo's Oat Bars, Celestial Seasonings, Chocolove, and Boulder Natural Foods, all of which are based in Boulder, Colorado. It seems as though there's something about Boulder that motivates people to develop health inspired, irresistible foods. If you are not acquainted with all of these companies, you may possibly be acquainted with other Colorado brands which include Hammond's Candies, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Larabar, and Too Haute Cowgirls. Maybe I'm something of a foodie, but if the mountains don't bring folks in, I would think that businesses similar to these would entice people to relocate to Colorado. Oh, and did I include that we have more than 120 breweries in Colorado? Colorado has been often called the Napa Valley of the beer world. What more can I say? our state is fantastic!
