Gas-Powered Go-Kart vs. Electric Go-Kart

Author: Wheelie Power

The ongoing debate as to which variety of go-kart is best. Gas or electric? It’s an effortless decision if you’re looking to purchase one for your kids. As parents, safety of our young ones will always come first and here’s why I see the electric go-kart as the top option. Let’s just take a look at the advantages and disadvantages concerning of each.

For pros, gas-powered go-karts go on for as long as you have gas and there's no wait-time needed to replenish the vehicle. Alternatively, they're noisy, give out toxic fumes, can reach high temperatures, have the potential to leak fuel/oil, and need more routine maintenance.

Electric go-karts are quick to turn on so kids can get to riding straight away. In addition, they have a really quiet drive, give off no pollutants, the big battery pack gives it a reliable foundation, it's more convenient to maintain with less moving parts, and is cheaper. The downsides are that the charge time is slow and the battery life can be disappointing.

Despite the fact that the charge time is slow, this can be handled overnight as you rest so it really will not be too much of a problem. As for the battery life, normally you are able to buy a spare so that you can swap it with minimal efforts when you have it at hand.

Generally speaking, the electric go-kart will be the primary option between the two for children ages 5-15. We should all know that their basic safety and health are of greatest importance when it comes to anything. Understanding that my kids weren’t breathing in any of the dangerous fumes and carbon monoxide was a huge huge factor for me when deciding between the gas and electric go-karts. The lower upfront cost compared to gas (where the cheapest goes for about $500) and the lower maintenance costs per year were just further gains. This isn’t one of those instances where more expensive means a better item.

Do know that not all electric go-karts are the same, though. If you want to know more about a specific electric go-kart we personally recommend, try reading our review of the Razor Ground Force Electric Go-Kart and see if it’s suitable for you and the kids!
