7 Reasons You Should Give Away Your Best Stuff for Free

So what’s the big deal with giving away free stuff like that? Why do these people do it, and more importantly why should *YOU* be doing it as well?

One Internet marketing teacher, Eben Pagan, talks about this and calls it “Moving the free line“. One of the biggest things that I’ve learned from him is not just that I should be giving away free stuff, but that I should be giving away my BEST stuff for free.

So here are my top 7 reasons why you should give away your best stuff for free:

Reason #7: It makes you look cool

Seriously – giving away awesome stuff is cool and people really like it. It makes you look generous and builds major goodwill with people who get your free stuff. And when it’s really valuable stuff and really helps people get results, then you look even cooler!

Reason #6: It makes other people feel clever

There have been many times that I have stumbled across a really great offer, something that was just what I needed or wanted in that moment. Something that really helped me get the results I was looking for. I usually feel pretty clever about discovering such a great resource. Even though the offer was targeted at me, and the person offering it obviously did a lot to get it out there where I would find it, I still feel like it was my discovery!

And you can bet that feeling of discovery and cleverness is not unique to me. In fact, I’ll bet you’ve felt it too!

You can give your target market that same feeling by giving them something really great that gives them the results they are looking for.

Reason #5: It builds reciprocity points

People in general feel the need to reciprocate when someone does them a favor. When you help them out, give them something that really benefits them, and do it for free with no strings attached, they will feel a certain amount of obligation toward you.

This is not a bad thing – it’s just the way it is. And it will make some people more likely to be interested in the other stuff you have to offer, or in helping you out in other ways by sharing your stuff with their friends, or giving you feedback on what else they might be interested in.

I’ll bet you can see examples of this in yourself, where you’ve received something great from someone, and then felt more inclined to give back to them as well.

Reason #4: It gives people something to share

We humans like to share and help those around us. It makes us feel good. So give people something great to share!

If your offer helps someone and gives them great results, they will want to share it with their friends and anyone else who can benefit. It makes them look good, and gives them that warm fuzzy feeling of having helped someone else as well.

So be sure to make your offer easy for them to share! Include links for them to re-tweet it or share it on Facebook, as well as other platforms. Make it as easy as possible for them to pass it on, and they’ll gladly share it with others.

Reason #3: It builds your list

Most of the time you will set up your offer so that people need to sign up for it. They give your their name and email, and you give them this great free resource. This builds your list of people who are interested in what you have to offer.

Your list is a valuable asset for your business! Whether your business is primarily online, or whether you operate an offline brick and mortar, you can benefit from building a list of people who like you and what you provide.

If you provide a kickin’ free offer, and CONTINUE to provide really great value to your list, they will stick around and get to know you. And many of them will buy from you over the course of time!

Reason #2: It sets the bar for your other offerings

When you give away your very best stuff, it shows people that what you have to offer is truly good and will give them results.

Imagine if you gave away your worst stuff, the really crappy content that wasn’t really much good to anyone. Do you think that anyone who received that would want more, or would want to PAY you for anything?

I think not.

But when you give away your very best stuff, people will start to think, “Wow, if they are giving away this great stuff for FREE, how much better is the stuff they are SELLING?”

Just be ready to deliver on that, and make sure that everything else you offer is top-notch as well…

Reason #1: You can help many people get real RESULTS

You have something that only you can offer to the world. You have unique gifts and talents that you can use to help people, to make a difference, to change lives and improve the world we live in.

And along with that, you have an OBLIGATION to share that with as many people as possible.

What better way to do that than to give it away to everyone you can? It doesn’t cost you any time or effort, beyond creating the offer, and gives you a vehicle to share your unique gifts and change a lot of lives.
