In a thought provoking interview, Matt Monarch, recognized raw foodist, challenges Daniel Vitalis to prove precisely why raw food for the long term might not be as advantageous as some individuals may think.

Daniel says that he personally does not feel that it is confirmed that the raw vegan diet has any benefit more than any other diet. He says there has never been any kind of verified report of any society surviving effectively on raw food alone, but that the reverse in reality is archaeologically doumented all through history.

Daniel believes that when he, himself, was on the raw diet, his calorie consumption was not sufficient and tries to get Matt to explain how he obtains an adequate amount of calories through this diet. Matt explains his thought that the body can survive on very few calories.

Matt says that being on raw food only, detoxified him to a point where he is so clean that he is in a position to absorb the needed nutrients from the food much easier than somebody not on the raw vegan diet.

At the time of the interview, Daniel indicates that almost all of the foods we eat today are highly domesticated, that although in the "raw" state, are so modified genetically and altered that they're basically not at the maximum nutrient value they once were, beginning in their "wild" state.

When the talk focused on Daniel and why he switched from raw food into a far more traditional "cooked food" diet, he said the change was effortless. He points out that for him, there are actually no true vegetarian diets. After talking about all sorts of fertilizer used to make these "organic" as well as "raw" foods grow, Matt appears a bit perplexed when Daniel inquires about how he grows his garden and if he utilizes any fertilizer generated from animals.

Daniel goes on to discuss how the foods we all eat now are so far removed from their actual, wild state that the raw vegan diet does not always supply all the nutritional value we need today anyway. He claims that in order to get the highest health benefits, we all would need to be consuming the foods in their wild state, where cooking the food can still give a lot more nutritional as well as medicinal value than the "raw" food that is generally available.

Lastly, the 2 food experts come to an agreement that everybody is distinct and everybody has unique needs. While Matt seems established in his opinions, feeling strongly regarding a raw vegan diet, Daniel Vitalis is firmly of the opinion that the foods we provide today (whether from a farm or even a store), have been modified so drastically that we do not recognize what the food used to be. He also points out that while many medicinal plants seem to be a completely new idea, ancient Chinese healing medicines have been incorporating them for thousands of years, with verifiable results in assiting health and longevity.
