As more people are plugged in to internet, so does our activities are performed online. Nowadays we can do online shopping, long distance learning, network marketing and now even online paid surveys.
Conducting surveys is a very important form of marketing effort. Surveys enable companies to ask questions to find out the consensus of the public with regards to companies’ products and even thoughts about political campaigns. Surveys allow companies to ask relevant and important questions of interest rather than having to run through all the data collected and screen out unimportant information.
Now many companies see this opportunity to build their business on online paid surveys . This is also attractive to companies who are looking for consumers' opinions and yet not have to go way out of their budget. In comparison, an offline face-to-face survey will cost approximately five times more than online surveys conducted through a survey engine. This is a win-win situation as some companies get to cut cost, some earn more money from conducting online surveys and lastly, even the consumers get to earn a bit of money for their participation.
However, surveys has its limitations . The accuracy of the results is never certain. When a survey is conducted, they are filled by participants interested in making money out of taking the surveys rather than participating the surveys because they have opinions or interests in the matter.
Another aspect we need to consider is that surveys tend to lead participants to giving vague answers. Sometimes a “Yes” and “No” reply is not good enough. But giving the participants an open ended question may not give answers valid for statistical purposes. Surveyors then have to contend with giving the participants a range of answers, such as “Strongly Agree”, “Agree” to “Strongly Disagree”. Although offering the participants a range of answers might not give a perfect precision in analysis, this is probably one of the ways to reduce errors. Even then, we have to understand that surveys are often taken by candidates who are free, such as housewives, interested in making money, like freelancers, etc. This could lead to an inaccuracy of results.
That said, we cannot forget the fact that online surveys open up another channel of income for a lot of companies. Knowing the tastes and thoughts of potential customers from another country can help a company to have a good grasp of the market. If they were to conduct the surveys offline and engaging companies to find suitable candidates would have cost the companies a lot more.
There can be no perfect scenario to conduct a flawless survey. The only thing surveyors can do is to try to word their questions in such a way that the answer will be as definitive and clear as possible in order to learn more about the public consensus.
