Three Tips for Learning to Sing

Author: Martin Davies

Many people would like to learn to sing, but professional singing training is just so costly nowadays. Being able to sing is a wonderful gift that, I think, deep inside all of us would like to have. This article is going to give you some super for learning to sing. Although it's aimed more at beginners, even more expert singers could find some useful advice. I hope you find it useful.

Probably one of the biggest mistakes singers make is that they don’t open up their mouths wide enough. This might sound obvious, but think about it. If you keep your lips close together, it will really cut down the how much sound that can get out. Often people do this because they are self conscious, or have picked up bad habits. But look at opera singers and how wide their mouths are when they sing. Next time you sing, make an effort to open your mouth more fully. You should see a big difference.

Some singers find it difficult to keep in time with the music. Assuming someone else is playing the music, it shouldn't be a difficulty. However, if you do have this problem, try to tap your foot lightly along with the music. If you don't do this already and have problems with timing, give it a try. It will help.

The last tip is a big one. Pick songs that suit your voice. No singer in the world can be an expert in all styles or vocal ranges. You might be fairly versatile, but chances are there is a particular style that suits you. You have to find songs that fit your voice. Pick out something and try singing it. If it doesn't feel comfortable at all, then you should probably try something else.

Being able to sing is something that we would all like to do. Some people are blessed with great voices naturally, although singing training will of course help them get the best out of their talents. Others (like me) have average voices, but singing training can still help us get the best out of our assets and progress to quite a high level.

A while ago, I came across a very good training course for learning how to sing. It helped me to improve a lot and is aimed at all levels of singing ability. If you are interested in reaching the next level, or just want to learn to sing from scratch, please read my review below.
