This is how community felt when first tried Office 2007. Where is my toolbar? What is that thing? What? Ribbon?
Since my office was upgraded as mandatory as per the company direction, I was forced to give it a hard try. After a while, it was not bad at all.
It is quite a departure from prior versions of MS Office!
Not only is there a new Ribbon, navigation, operation and file structures are new. New isn’t bad, but new can be quite unsettling for office users that depends on it. I had to deal with a new install of MS Office 2007 for a single user in a small office where all other’s are using earlier versions of Office and particularly MS Word.
The familiar Tools menu and Options box are fragmented and dispersed. 2007 Word wants to save documents in new format-XML rather the simple .doc. Office 2007 can exists with doc version, but not without some impact on users; it is a better fit in an office where it is the prevailing or only Office suite.
I started to learn more about the tool, and doing more searches and experiments for answers, workarounds, quick fixes and tutorials to speed up my learning curve and get some quick answers before the new user and existing users started getting frustrated. I come up with some very useful material and some very good and very quick solutions.
Afterall, it is not that bad, once you see the tips and tricks, it is quite handy and useful tool as before ! enjoy!
