Gaining Weight With The Raw Diet

Author: Pamela Smith

For the most part raw foodists discuss living foods and how they often contribute to weight reduction. Come to find out, there are actually men and women in the opposing situation. These folks need or want to add pounds however they have a desire to consume vegan foods and gain healthy weight.

Below is a story regarding my previously slim brother and how he managed to gain weight consuming primarily green smoothies. My brother is a 34 year old, mostly organic, raw food vegan. He mostly consumes green smoothies out of perhaps laziness, and also for all of the reported health advantages that can be achieved.

After eating 75+% green smoothies for a couple of months he felt energized and inspired to get back to working out in hopes to perhaps achieve muscle weight. He practiced weight lifting in the past to try and put on muscle and boost his confidence. This time he decided to things much more seriously, so he paid for an annual membership with the hope to stay committed, and he also hired a fitness instructor.

After months of the instructor bugging him about his vegan diet and strongly suggesting that he eat fatty animal foods and sweet snacks that take awhile to digest, in order to gain the desired weight, he got rid of his instructor and continued to workout by himself, and began hunting for a diet, to achieve weight gain, that he was pleased with.

He stumbled across info about figs, a calorie rich fruit that tasted amazing in smoothies, and for some raw eaters, described as the healthiest choice of all weight gain foods. He soaked a bunch of figs in water in the refrigerator each evening (easier to digest after soaking) and through each day would include several in each smoothie, and finally poured the soak water in his final green smoothie of the day. He kept going with this and finally started to add some pounds! Although pleased with the weight gain, he wanted to gain even more weight, but by adding other means than just figs.

He then checked out some healthier fattier fish (remember, he isn't 100 percent a raw food vegan, just mostly) and settled with sardines, as well as anchovies. He actually enjoys the taste of both so he began eating a few cans each week, just eating them right out of the can.

He also began including raw organic nut butters, like raw cashew butter or/and raw macadamia butter, to his green smoothies. He started to see even more weight being put on as a result of this added dosage of calories. In order to get more protein into his diet, he mixed in either hemp or bee pollen to the green smoothies.

As an extra health boost, not for gaining weight but for powerful minerals he occasionally added a few strips of fresh dulse to the green smoothies.

There we have it. A couple additional bits to green smoothies and perhaps even some fatty fish included in the diet, he managed to put on pounds in a exponentially healthier way than going through the Harvey's drive thru. Possibly this process could do the trick for you too if healthy weight gain is what you are after.
